New Amsterdam Records is releasing American composer/percussionist David T. Little’s Haunt of Last Nightfall next month and have posted a track from the effort online. New Amsterdam is known for its cutting-edge artists, but we rarely experience something as visceral as “…and there was morning – The Second Day” coming from its ranks. Think a more structured Ben Frost jamming with Master Musicians of Bukkake, and that is where this track exists. It’s a suitable teaser, and we’re intrigued to see where the rest of the album will take us.
Rembert Browne has made the astute observation that deciding which summer festivals to attend this year mainly boils down to the question “How many times do you want to see Outkast?” over at Grantland. Untangle the web of logic here.
For those not entirely interested in Outkast and living in Europe, you may want to check out Denovali’s annual Swingfest (4/18-19 in London, 4/25-26 in Berlin, 10/2-5 in Essen), which routinely features the best Europe has to offer in terms of modern instrumental music. Head over to Denovali for full details, and someone please buy me a plane ticket for the Berlin show 🙂
Her is garnering a lot of buzz as one of 2013’s top films (which is absolutely is), and Arcade Fire’s soundtrack for the film is also quite nice. We’re awaiting an official release (and hoping for some wax), but stream the enchanting “Song on the Beach” above. A trailer for the film is below.
Here’s a trailer to the Spanish sci-fi short film Similo. Not only does it look pretty awesome, but readers may be extra intrigued to learn that Similo’s OST features tracks by FORPE favorites Max Richter and Rhian Sheehan. Check out the trailer above!
Bernardo Britto’s “Yearbook” ( w/ original score by Eluvium ) won the Short Film Award in Animation at Sundance. The film is about a man hired to compile the definitive history of human existence before the planet blows up. Check out the trailer above.
